Fat Freezing vs Fat Cavitation

The demand for non-invasive fat reduction procedures is continuing to increase and gain popularity in spas and clinics around the world. This is due to their ability to safely and effectively reduce stubborn pockets of fat, with less downtime and side effects than traditional invasive surgeries such as liposuction. This also means customers have more options to choose from when it comes to their body contouring needs. Two of the most popular non-surgical fat reduction treatments are fat freezing and fat cavitation. Both are effective methods in reducing stubborn fat that is resistant to a healthy lifestyle, however there are several key differences when it comes to fat freezing vs fat cavitation.

What is Fat Cavitation?

Fat cavitation was one of the first non-invasive procedures available on the market to help reduce stubborn fat. It uses low-frequency ultrasonic waves to deplete fat cells underneath the skin. The heat and vibration cause the adipose tissue to break down and eventually be flushed out by the lymphatic system. The result is long term fat reduction, however this is not necessarily permanent as the fat cells are being shrunk rather than destroyed, meaning they are still able to store fat over time. It usually requires multiple sessions as well as regular maintenance to achieve the best fat reduction results. Ultrasound cavitation has also been successful in reducing the appearance of cellulite.

What is Fat Freezing?

Fat freezing, also known as cryolipolysis, is a newer and more advanced technology than fat cavitation, offering more dramatic and permanent results. The Cryoskin Fat Freezing treatment uses a manual handpiece with a unique cooling and heating technique to destroy and break apart fat cells without damaging any surrounding tissue. The body undergoes a process of heated massage, followed by a temperature decrease to -8° C, finishing with another heated massage. Like fat cavitation, this process triggers the lymphatic system to flush out the dead fat cells from the body.

Cryoskin treatments also increase the body’s oxygen supply and facilitates the production of collagen. It is an effective body contouring procedure that permanently destroys fat cells, as well as toning and lifting the skin and reducing the appearance of cellulite. These results are permanent, however a healthy diet and exercise are recommended to stop the remaining fat cells from inflating over time. Cryoskin has three different settings: Cryoslimming, Cryotoning and the Cryo Facial.

How Much Weight Can You Lose with Fat Cavitation and Fat Freezing?

Fat Cavitation is not necessarily a weight loss treatment, but a fat reduction procedure. This means your results will be noticeable by how many centimetres of fat you’ve lost in your targeted area, rather kilograms of fat tissue. A single session can remove up to 1 to 1.5cm, whereas 6 to 12 sessions can remove up to 12cm in localised areas.
It should also be noted that the results achieved by ultrasound cavitation can often not depend exclusively upon the device itself, but also on the skills of the technician administering the treatment.

Like fat cavitation, cryolipolysis is not necessarily a solution to lose weight, but to contour the body through localised fat reduction. Cryoskin patients are able to lose an average of 1 to 2 cm per session, with some people seeing up to a 44% reduction of fat in their targeted areas. Again, these results will vary from person to person but can be very promising. While Cryoskin technicians are well trained, the results will not depend upon their level of skill.

How Long Does It Take to See Results?

For most people it will take around 3 sessions to see visible results from fat cavitation. It is recommended to have between 6 and 12 sessions to see the final results, but this will vary for each patient depending on their age, weight, treatment area and desired results.
Sessions take approximately 35 to 40 minutes for a single body part treatment. These sessions also need to be spaced at least 72 hours apart for the body to eliminate the fat. The body can continue to flush out fat cells for up to 6 months after the treatment.

On average, most Cryoskin customers will see noticeable results immediately after their first session, usually losing between 1 to 2cm, if not more. The best results will usually appear after 2 to 3 weeks and it is recommended to have around 3 to 6 sessions to maximise these results.
Most Cryoskin treatments will take approximately 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the treatment area. These sessions can be performed every 2 weeks.

What are the Side Effects of Fat Cavitation?

Ultrasound cavitation generally does not have any serious side effects. There are a few common short-term side effects that people may experience.
These include:

  • Bruising
  • Pain
  • Redness
  • Headache

Other long-term side effects of fat cavitation can include:

  • Loose skin or dimples in the skin
  • Uneven fat loss causing lumps and bumps

What are the Side Effects of Fat Freezing?

Side effects from Cryoskin treatments are uncommon. However, some people may experience:

  • Increased thirst and urination for up to 3 days
  • Localised redness and soreness in the treatment area which fades within a few hours
  • Itching due to the use of certain cosmetic products
  • Delayed onset muscle soreness which subsides within a few hours

Which is Better?

While both these methods are effective in treating stubborn pockets of fat without the need for surgery or anaesthesia,  when it comes to fat freezing vs fat cavitation, the advanced technology of Cryoskin is simply unbeatable.
Cryoskin patients will typically see better results, more quickly. Best of all, these results are permanent as the fat cells are actually destroyed rather than just being emptied. Cryoskin also has the added bonus of uses the cold to stimulate the production of collagen, improving the elasticity of the skin over time. Alternatively, both fat freezing and fat cavitation treatments can be combined together to increase the chance of receive the best results.
